ネパールの山を歩くために、 セーターを1枚持っていくことは最初から決めていました。 山の装備の多く ネパールの山を歩くために、 セーターを1枚持っていくことは最初から決めていました。 山の装備の多くは友人に借り、 機能的なレイヤーを選ぶこともできたけれど、 重量制限のある中で、私は自分のアランセーターを選びました。 11月のネパールの山は寒暖差が激しく、 歩けば体温が上がり、ウールのTシャツ1枚になります。 山小屋では、いつもセーター。 心許ないシャワーの後も、 冷え切った朝に目覚めたすぐも。 前も後ろも気にせず、素早くすっぽり被る。 歩き始めて体が温まるまではセーターで、 汗は編み目から、風の通りに抜けていき、 体温だけは、残ってくれる。 山を歩くことを日々の続きのように、 体に馴染んだこの1枚で過ごせたことが 何よりうれしく安心できました。 古い編み物本に出てくる、 セーターを着た探検家を思い出します。 働くヤクに、たくさん出会いました。 シェットランドヤーンに包まれる自分は、 「はじめまして」と先輩に会えたような気持ちになるのです。 ヤクの毛と結ばれたリボンが道に落ちていて、 一緒に歩いた仲間がこっそり拾って、私にくれました。 いつも目に留まる場所で、お守りのようにしています。 またいつか、このヤクに会いに行くんだと。 I decided from the beginning to bring one sweater with me for walking in the mountains of Nepal. Most of my mountain gear was borrowed from friends. There were many functional layers I could have chosen, but with strict weight limits, I had to make a choice. I chose my own Aran sweater. In November, the mountains of Nepal have dramatic temperature changes. As soon as you start walking, your body warms up, and you end up in just a wool T-shirt. In the lodges, I always wore the sweater. After unreliable showers, and in the cold mornings just after waking up. No front, no back— I simply pulled it on. Until my body warmed up, I walked in the sweater. Sweat escaped through the stitches, carried by the wind, while my body heat stayed with me. Being able to walk the mountains as if they were a continuation of daily life, wrapped in a sweater familiar to my body, made me feel deeply happy—and safe. I thought of explorers in old knitting books, wearing their sweaters. I met many working yaks. Wrapped in Shetland yarn, I felt as if I were greeting an elder— “Nice to meet you.” A ribbon tied with yak hair was lying on the trail. One of my companions quietly picked it up and gave it to me. I keep it somewhere my eyes often rest,like a small talisman. Someday, I will go and meet this yak again. この本のことを、大切に思っている。 小さな手袋／珈琲挽き 小沼丹 庄野潤三 編 みすず書房 ノス この本のことを、大切に思っている。 小さな手袋／珈琲挽き 小沼丹 庄野潤三 編 みすず書房 ノスタルジックで、新美南吉を彷彿とさせるタイトルだけれど、 読んでみると、内容は、古き良き昭和の飲んだくれ文豪たちの 交友録と日々のエッセイだった。 それでも、井伏鱒二や庄野潤三のエピソード、 新橋、荻窪などの地名が出てくると、 まるで見たことのある景色のように、立ち上がってくるのだ。 人との会話は少なく、行き来は濃い。 時間に余裕があった時代。 「思ひだし」「行ってしまふ」など、 今では使われなくなった日本語が、 ページのあちこちに散りばめられている。 この本に出会ったのは、 MOUNT COFFEE "BOOKS YAMAMOTO"にて。 最近、誰かの価値観には、心が動かなくなっているけれど、 たぶん私は、 つながりのようなものに 惹かれているのだろう。 #みすず書房
